Facts, stories, and history, in service of energy education.

The Responsible Energy Council is a California-based nonprofit committed to building an energy-educated society. Through facts, human stories, and rigorous research, we develop media, educational programs, and digital resources that help consumers understand where their energy comes from, and what's at stake.

We are nonpartisan, and dedicated to giving every Californian access to clear, honest information about all forms of energy.

Why Energy Education Matters

California is in the middle of the most significant energy transition in a generation, and consumers are caught in the confusion.

New mandates, rising costs, grid reliability concerns, and a rush to renewables have created real consequences for everyday Californians. At the same time, the history of the state's energy industry, a story of innovation, community, and economic life, risks being lost as older generations retire.

The REC exists at this intersection: educating today's consumers while preserving the knowledge of yesterday's energy builders. Every program we run is built on one belief: an informed public makes better decisions, supports better policy, and builds a better future.
